ABOUT THIS ROLE
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma (BBBSOK) creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. To make those relationships possible, we need a consistent pipeline of caring adults ready to become Bigs. The Mentor Recruitment Specialist is a goal-driven, community-based recruiter responsible for generating approximately 40 qualified volunteer mentor applications each month across Oklahoma City and Norman. This is an active, results-oriented role for someone who enjoys meeting people, building relationships, asking for commitments, and being accountable for measurable outcomes. The work happens more in the community rather than behind a desk.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Develop and execute recruitment strategies to consistently meet monthly volunteer application goals.
Build a strong pipeline of prospective Bigs through businesses, civic organizations, faith communities, colleges, community events, networking, and other outreach.
Deliver engaging presentations and represent BBBSOK at recruitment events and meetings.

Work independently in the community while maintaining strong communication and accountability with your supervisor.
Respond professionally to coaching, adjust strategies when needed, and follow established agency procedures and messaging.
Coordinate with program staff to ensure a smooth transition from recruitment to volunteer enrollment.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
Successful candidates will be able to:
Consistently generate approximately 40 qualified Big applications per month across Oklahoma City and Norman.
Build new recruitment opportunities rather than waiting for leads to come to them.
Follow up reliably and persistently with prospective volunteers.
Meet commitments and manage responsibilities without frequent reminders.
Maintain accurate records and organized recruitment pipelines.
Receive feedback professionally and adjust quickly when needed.
Represent BBBSOK with maturity, sound judgment, and professionalism.

Proven ability to meet measurable performance goals.
Strong communication, public-speaking, and relationship-building skills.
Persistence and comfort initiating conversations and asking people to take action.
Excellent organization, follow-through, and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently while remaining accountable for results.
Strong professional judgment and ability to receive and apply coaching.
Comfort using technology and CRM systems; Salesforce experience is a plus.
Reliable transportation and ability to travel regularly throughout Oklahoma City and Norman.
Availability for occasional evening and weekend recruitment activities.
Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience.
A REALISTIC LOOK AT THIS ROLE:
This position involves significant time in the community, regular driving, prospecting and follow-up, occasional evening and weekend events, and transporting and setting up recruitment materials. It may not be the right fit for someone seeking primarily office-based work or who is uncomfortable being held accountable for specific monthly recruitment results. This role is a great fit for someone who is persistent, organized, persuasive, dependable, coachable, and motivated by both meaningful work and measurable results. Every Big recruited creates the possibility of a life-changing mentoring relationship for a child. If you’re ready to help build those connections, we’d love to hear from you.
